Northern Yarn is an independent wool shop, in the heart of Lancaster. Owner Kate started the business after a relocation back up to the North West from London. Her new surroundings of beautiful countryside and many fields of sheep, helped cement her idea of selling locally sourced British wool.

The shop is stocked full of well loved British Yarns and wool from local farms – but finding the really local wool proved to have it’s own challenges. So Kate decided to have her own line produced from local flocks, following the process from sheep to skein. Knowing where the wool came from, and meeting the farmers who tended the animals and land became as important as the spinning. The result is a sustainable, regional product that supports the local economy and environment. Not only wool, the shop supports local producers and artists and holds community events and classes throughout the year.
